A network with a job
Why the hundred needs complementary critics, not a hundred versions of the founder.

“Find the world's 100 best thinkers” has the reassuring shape of a task. It also conceals almost every decision that matters.
Best at what? Formal proof? Fieldwork? Finding a causal effect? Explaining a political institution? Noticing that the entire measurement exercise should be challenged before anyone builds a dashboard?
A leaderboard needs a shared contest. This project needs different kinds of judgement.
One short equation, a long examination
The Internet of Value uses the expression VC = W × Vcom. Here it is a starting point for questions, not a claim that a compact expression has settled the science. Its exact definitions and conditions belong to the specifications; this journal does not replace them.
How should wellbeing be represented? What belongs in value for the commons? What would make a multiplication meaningful? What evidence could tell us that the relationship is wrong, incomplete or useful only under restricted conditions?
The mathematics journey explains the current proposal. The purpose of IoV100 is to find people able to interrogate it.
The network must be the polymath
A measurement researcher may test whether a construct means the same thing in different populations. A causal researcher may ask what would identify an effect. An economist may question aggregation or incentives. A political thinker may ask who gets to decide. A privacy scholar may question whether the measurement should happen at all.
These are illustrative roles, not assessments of particular candidates. Nobody needs to be competent at all of them. In fact, expecting that could exclude precisely the specialist we need.
The intended hundred is a portfolio of complementary intellectual functions: people who can formalise, measure, model, contextualise, challenge and test. Some agreement is useful. So is the person who can explain, carefully, why our favourite assumption does not survive the afternoon.
