Representation
Every measurement system begins before mathematics. It begins when a civilization learns how to represent something that was previously difficult to see. Clocks represented time. Credit scores represented repayment risk. GDP represented national economic output. Each representation made new forms of measurement and coordination possible, while also narrowing what could be seen.
The missing observer
Modern civilization has created many representations of the human being: citizen, borrower, worker, student, patient, user, creator, and consumer. These representations are useful, but partial. They are usually built for institutions that must make decisions about people. They rarely help the person observe their own becoming.
Proposed architecture
This paper proposes Observer Attention as the missing layer. The observer is the person. Attention selects meaningful signals from exteroception and interoception. ~ValueCaptureProtocol binds those selected signals to time. ~WellbecomingProtocol gives them a vocabulary of attention. ~WellbeingIdentity receives the wellbeing-state update. ~SAOcommons validates commons-relevant contribution. VC = W × Vcom expresses the typed value relation.
Typed value
The paper distinguishes Non-Performance value from Performance value. Non-Performance slices, such as sleep, recovery, journaling, emotional regulation, breathwork, or habit repair, create wellbeing value and update W inside ~WellbeingIdentity. Performance slices may activate ~SAOcommons and produce commons-realized value through ~~Learning, ~~Earning, or ~~OrgBuilding. In both cases, value begins when attention makes life observable.
